How it works
In order to use TweetMy311, you’ll need three things:
- A smart phone with GPS capability and a camera (like an iPhone or Droid).
- A Twitter account.
- A Twitter client that lets you “geotag” tweets.
To submit a service request, send a tweet to TweetMy311 in the form of a Twitter @reply.
In order to work, a service request tweet must have at least three things:
- The latitude and longitude of the location that you are tweeting from.
- A URL to a photograph of the issue that you want to report. You can use one of the many Twitter photo sharing services for this.
- A valid hashtag that maps to the specific service type that you want to report.
Do note that TweetMy311 hashtags only exist for certain service request types, so it’s best to check and see what’s available before submitting your request. Using the proper hashtag will ensure your service request is reported correctly in the 311 system, which will help ensure it is handled efficiently and the issue resolved more quickly.

When you send your service request tweet to TweetMy311, you’ll get a response back as a Twitter @reply telling you if you need to include more information or use a different hashtag.
If your tweet is formatted correctly, you’ll get a @reply with a service request ID number.

You can track the status of a service request by sending TweetMy311 a status tweet. Just send a @reply with the service request ID number for your request with the special hashtag #status.
